Emmy-Winning Journalist and Author José Martínez to Host Book Talk at Reading Public Library

READING, PA — Emmy Award–winning journalist, author, and storyteller José Martínez will host a community book talk and conversation centered on language, identity, and belonging at the Reading Public Library this January.

The event will take place on Tuesday, January 13 at 5:30 PM at the Reading Public Library — Main Branch and is free and open to the public.

Martínez will discuss his memoir, Your English Is Great, But…: A Life Between Languages, Cities, and Grief, a deeply personal exploration of growing up between cultures and languages — and how language shapes memory, migration, grief, and identity.

The evening will include a short reading, a conversation about the themes of the book, and a Q&A with the audience.

“Language is memory, migration, and emotion — wrapped in syllables,” Martínez says. “This event is about creating space for people to reflect on their own stories, their families, and the languages — spoken or unspoken — that shaped them.”

A bilingual writer and journalist, Martínez has reported nationally and locally on culture, community, and social issues. His work focuses on elevating underrepresented voices and exploring the emotional and human dimensions of everyday life.

The event is designed to be warm, reflective, and accessible — welcoming readers, writers, students, and community members of all backgrounds.
