READING, Pa. — Books, creativity and community came together this week at Tenth & Green Elementary School as families gathered for a Family Literacy Event hosted by the Reading School District.
The event created space for students, educators and families to connect through reading, storytelling and hands-on literacy activities designed to encourage learning beyond the classroom.

Emmy Award-winning journalist and author José Martínez participated in the event, sharing Your English Is Great, But… and Your English Is Great, But…: A Bilingual Coloring & Activity Book for Kids with local families.
Students explored bilingual coloring activities, storytelling resources and literacy stations focused on creativity, identity and language.
One of the highlights of the afternoon centered on community collaboration.
Local author Jennifer Adames also participated in the event, creating an opportunity to celebrate something larger than individual projects — expanding access to books, storytelling and literacy opportunities for young people across the community.
Throughout the afternoon, families connected around books, creativity and learning while students colored activity pages and explored literacy in interactive ways.

Events like this continue highlighting the importance of making books accessible while creating spaces where young people can see language, culture and storytelling reflected in their everyday lives.
As summer approaches, literacy advocates and educators hope opportunities like these continue encouraging students to stay engaged with reading while building positive connections around books and learning.
For organizations, schools and local leaders working to strengthen literacy efforts, the message remains clear:
More books.
More creativity.
More community.
And inside Tenth & Green Elementary this week, that mission came to life.
