Founder of VOZ NYC recognized for excellence in television journalism as his independent media platform continues to grow.
NEW YORK — Emmy Award-winning journalist, author, and VOZ NYC founder José Martínez has earned two nominations for the 2026 Emmy® Awards, recognizing his continued work in television journalism and storytelling.
The nominations mark another milestone in a career dedicated to reporting stories that connect communities, amplify underrepresented voices, and bridge cultures through bilingual journalism.
Martínez, who previously received two Emmy Awards, said the nominations represent more than professional recognition.
“Every nomination is a reminder that stories matter. Whether I’m reporting for television, writing a book, or building VOZ NYC, my goal has always been the same: to tell stories that help people see themselves—and each other—with a little more understanding.”
While continuing his work in broadcast journalism, Martínez has also spent the past year expanding VOZ NYC, an independent bilingual media platform focused on culture, identity, books, travel, immigration, and Latino communities across the United States and beyond.
The platform has recently expanded its original reporting, cultural essays, newsletters, and community partnerships while introducing new storytelling formats across social media.
Martínez is also the author of Your English Is Great, But…: A Life Between Languages, Cities, and Grief, a memoir exploring language, belonging, grief, and the immigrant experience. The book has reached readers in the United States and internationally, further extending the conversations that began through his journalism.
As VOZ NYC continues to grow, Martínez says the Emmy recognition reinforces his belief that journalism and independent publishing can complement one another.
“The newsroom taught me how to report. VOZ reminds me why those stories matter.”
The 2026 Emmy® Awards will recognize excellence in television and media across the region later this year.
